The denim dilemma...令人又愛又恨的丹寧?

To wear denim or not, and how?
如何穿搭丹寧的單品呢?

As an aspiring gentleman, denim is one of my least favorite materials and the least common in my wardrobe. This is for a good reason - it is informal, rough, unrefined accoutrement, in my humble opinion. 

身為一位欲啟發紳士風格的紳士,丹寧絕對不是我的首選,也是衣櫥中不常出現的衣物. 在我個人看來,這原因非常簡單,因為丹寧是"不正式, 粗糙, 不精緻"的單品.

Don't get me wrong, a good pair of denim jeans to just wear out to the shop or even (sometimes) matched with a good stylish shirt as (very) informal going-out wear is FINE, but these days, too many people go WAY over the top with what they think are acceptable ways of wearing the cowboy threads...
但別誤會我的意思. 穿一件好的牛仔長褲出去買買東西,或是做簡單的休閒打扮是沒問題的.可是最近我發現很多太誇張的丹寧單品被穿上街,..

First of all, a few no-nos. Let's just call these from least offending to most - for argument's sake (although they should really ALL be avoided):
接下來, 我會分享一些不好的丹寧打扮. (no-no!!!) 這樣說好了,排名越後面的,是我認為越糟糕的打扮.但其實應該盡量避免以下任何一種穿搭.

#1 - Denim shorts for men

Unless you're surfing a rodeo bull in the ocean (somehow???), HOW can this be stylish and representative of a gentleman's taste and elegance?
除非你在海裡騎瘋狂的西部野牛?(怎麼騎?) 丹寧短褲哪裡有型?怎麼能表現出一位紳士的優雅和品味呢?

#2 - The denim top

It's how all the cool kids wear it. 

With hoodie, without hoodie, the idea is NOT sound. Denim is supposed to exemplify rough, work-ready pants at best. How does that EVER translate into a formal shirt? You're going to lasso a client if he doesn't want to buy? The wild west is GONE baby!
不管是否是帽T丹寧,這個想法真的不好.丹寧的主要目的就是要表現粗糙,狂野,甚至是便利的工作服. 什麼時候變成正式的襯衫了? 假如客人不買單,你打算用繩索套住他嗎? 可不是在上演西部牛仔耶!

#3 - Double denim-ing

The level of concussion or brain damage you must have to leave your house after deciding THIS was the best you could do, is probably an indication that you're NOT mentally fit to be leaving your house at all...
想必是嚴重腦震盪或腦部損傷,所以你決定這就是你今天最好看得穿搭?那這大概可以告訴你,你似乎不該離開家門...

#4 - The denim coat!
丹寧大衣!!!

I solve murder mysteries AND perform at ladies' birthday parties*.

Not much to say about THIS one. Every man should have a good coat (I prefer a subtle gray wool, but opinions will differ), but this is NOT that! Seriously, if you cannot pick a decent coat to complement your already dashing look, better to go without it than resort to this insanity.

對於丹寧大衣,我實在說不出什麼好話來.每位男士應該擁有一件好的大衣(我個人比較偏好灰色毛呢大衣,但每個人可以有不一樣的選擇)但這絕對不是一個選擇! 說真的,如果你無法選擇一件像樣的大衣來襯托你已經很出色的裝扮,那不如就直接出門吧!

As mentioned before, a good pair of denim jeans, maybe with some nice Palladium boots or Superga sneakers, and a decent choice of upper body accompaniment can go a LONG way for a casual jaunt.
剛剛有提到搭配好的牛仔長褲是沒問題的.一件好的牛仔長褲搭配上Palladium靴子或Superga帆布鞋,簡單大方的上衣,這樣就非常適合不太正式的微遠足啦!

Choose carefully and dress like this only once in a blue moon, and you'll keep your Mr. Pendleton air, but still step out tough-and-trendy at the same time.

若真的需要搭配牛仔長褲,請仔細斟酌,也要確保穿著輕便的同時,卻不失時髦感.只要不常用懶散的牛仔褲裝扮帶過,Mr. Pendleton的氣息就會時時刻刻跟著你.
